Chairman Rev. Michael Rear
Let The Children Live! is a UK Registered Charity (no. 1013634)
which tries to inform and educate people with respect to the needs of
the street-children in Colombia and beyond. Its stated aims are "both
to safeguard the lives of children from the violence and poverty of
the streets, and to make their lives worth living by giving them love,
education and a future." The Charity was founded by Father Peter Walters who became involved
with the street-children in 1982 when they helped him after he became
temporarily stranded in Colombia (where he now lives).

An association of solidarity with Brazilian street children created in June 1996. Our aims are: to denounce the violence suffered by the Brazilian children and youth;
to promote and support cooperation projects aimed to improve the conditions of the needy youth in Brazil; and to put pressure on the Brazilian government until it respects the rights
of the children. We are working together with the Movimento Nacional de Meninos e Meninas
de Rua, an independant NGO which promotes the participation of the street
children in their claim for their statutory rights.

Mi Nueva Casa, Inc., is a bi-national effort to assist the homeless
children of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. The corporation was formed in respone to the plight of the "tunnel
children," homeless youth who lived in sewer tunnels that run between
Nogales, Arizona and Nogales Sonora. In these dark and filthy passageways,
the children abused spray paint and other drugs, while resoritng to a life
of crime including prostitution and smuggling contraband to support
themselves. The corporation's mission is simple; it will provide the
necessary resources for the youth to become productive citizens of Meixcan
society while reducing juvenile delinquency in the United States. To meet these goals, Mi Nueva Casa opened a youth center in Nogales Sonora
in 1994. At the center, the youth can eat, shower and study, receive
counseling or just hang out. Health care and job development are also
available. Center hours are 8-5 Monday through Friday and 9-2 on Saturday
and Sunday.

Musmos is a group of college students who work for streetchildren in
Manila. With the help of other Non-Governmental Organizations, we are
able to put a street project for the streetchildren in our areas. The
conditions of the children are not very good. Most of these children are
victims of abuse (physically, mentally, and emotionally). We are trying
to send these children to institutions who could help them in their
situation. But these things are not enough. There are a lot of
streetchildren and very few centers that could help them. We are trying
to provide them with livelihood and some financial support to help them
in their daily living. With the help of a Jesuit group we were abale to
feed them but only during weekends. We are also trying to help them
medically with the help of volunteer nurses and health workers.

National Child Rights Alliance
The National Child Rights Alliance was founded in March 1986 by seven youth and adults
who had been abused and neglected as children. NCRA recognizes a "dual form" of abuse:
that by a parent or caretaker and that by society at large. Whether a child is
deprived of safety, food, dignity, medical care, shelter or emotional support by
the actions of an individual parent,or by the actions of a negligent society does
not make the suffering of the child any less. NCRA believes that its mission goes
beyond the immediate need to stop child abuse now. It extends to a larger social
justice view of oppressed groups taking power; a civil rights movement comparable
to other great civil rights movements.

Angola
Project Kandengues Unidos is funded by the European Union, implemented by the Italian ngo Centre for
Development Information and Education (CIES). Begun early 1994, due to last until end of 1998 when activities will
be taken over by a national NGO being created by Angolan project staff. The project is directed at
street children and women and children in the urban slums. The approach of the project is developmental
and non-welfarist. It does not provide either food or boarding (groups of young people may receive a loan
from the project to set up home on their own). The focus is on enhancing the young people's own
resources and those of the communities in which they live. The project philosophy is to give priority to
activities in the slums where the street children come from. Institution building activities and sensitization of the
public are important aspects of the project.
