Natural Puerto Rico
Alfonso Silva Lee, graduate of the University of Moscow, began his career
in biology diving Caribbean waters. His attention toward the land creatures
commenced some 25 years ago, when he began to observe and photograph the
life-forms that abound in the Antillean islands, and to write about them.
Alfonso has written nine books about of the topic --, and more than
50 scientific and popular articles. As a biologist, he has worked in several
Cuban institutions, and did postgraduate study environmental conservation
at the University of Illinois and Field Museum of Natural History (Chicago).
Among his recent books are Cuba Natural and Coral Reefs of the
Caribbean, Bahamas and Florida.
In Natural Puerto Rico, Alfonso Silva Lee invites us to know
the fauna of this beautiful island, and he does it in a scientific way,
with an agile and congenial style, and with some overwhelmingly beautiful
photographs.
Here he describes a good number of indigenous Puerto Rico animals, and
he teaches us about their customs and forms of life, their origin, and
why they are unique on the planet. He teaches how the animals depend on
the plants, and also one another.
Mr. Silva Lee, who is just returning from a promotional tour for his
new book at some important museums and cities in the United States, has
resided for some years in Real Anón, where he studies the life-forms
and ecosystem of the Island's forest region.
The book Natural Puerto Rico is written in Spanish
and English and can be obtained in Librería Paliques in Ponce.
